Aptos - new default font for Office


After 15 years Microsoft will soon change the default font in all Office applications from Calibri to a new font called Aptos.

Designed by Steve Matson the font was designed to have the astute tone of The Late Show host Stephen Colbert.

As with most Microsoft changes it's always good to understand what is changing.

New Default Font Aptos

New Office documents will have Aptos as their default font instead of Calibri. If you have loaded a different default font, then there will be no change.

The range of colours that you can pick from are changing. Grey and Yellow are being replaced with Turquoise and Plum. We love that Orange is still number two.

If you already use a custom theme in your documents, then there will be no change.

Changes are coming to the weight and shading of lines.

Changes are coming to the default set of themes.

Change will only impact the default settings.

None of these changes will impact you if you use templates with custom themes and fonts.
